Friday February 27, 2015 - Rio Grande, Brazil

Friday February 27, 2015 – Rio Grande, Brazil

We got up at 8:30 – wow that was a good night’s sleep.  We had only coffee and then decided to wait on the ship and go ashore after lunch and the rush to get off of the ship.  We read in Horizons and talked to Patricia and Paul from Austin.  Funny that we have another Patricia and Paul to travel with!

We went ashore about 1.  The shuttle bus had just left so we took a taxi for $8 to Centro.  We walked around for a while but there isn’t much in Rio Grande.  A crumbling, somewhat dilapidated city.  We went to 4 banks trying to get Brazilian reals – and the fourth time worked at Santander Bank.  Whew.

Oh my, now he has his own bank!!!!  But we couldn't get money there!

Large elaborate structure on the waterfront.  There were lots of crumbling buildings in Rio Grande!

We walked back to City Hall and waited for the shuttle bus to get back to the ship.  It was a full bus.  We relaxed the rest of the afternoon and then went to hear Dr. Nijensohn talk about the Battle of the Rio Plate in the lounge at 5:45.

We had drinks in the lounge before dinner and met Stan and Helen from Denver.  We had dinner with them in the dining room and that was fun.  After dinner we went back to the lounge and watched Amy’s “country” show.  Obscure, sad country songs for the most part but she has a great voice.  It was almost midnight when we went to bed.
