Thursday February 5, 2015 - Ariquipa, Peru

Thursday February 5, 2015 - Ariquipa, Peru

We woke up about 8 and went for coffee in the coffee bar.  Tito is an Italian making coffees in the morning.

We went to 2 of the enrichment lectures and they were somewhat interesting.  We had lunch in the buffet.  They have a good selection but they have to serve each plate rather than helping yourself which slows it down a bit.

The ship was delayed getting into port due to a bus being late the evening before.  We had previously decided that we didn’t want to ride 3 hours to Ariquipa, Peru and 3 hours back – just to see 2 cathedrals.  Instead we were going to take the shuttle bus into town – a 30 minute ride.  We ended up taking a nap and just stayed on the ship and relaxed.
A very desolate and isolated port in Ariquipa, Peru

We went to High Tea at 4 in Horizons and validated our decision.  A couple from Austin, Texas had taken the shuttle into town and came right back.  There was nothing to see along the way and nothing in town – no shops, no museums, no sights.  So we were glad that we just relaxed.  High Tea was fabulous – wonderful teas, sandwiches, and desserts.  Yum.

We relaxed the rest of the afternoon and then dressed for dinner – but we wore jeans since it is Mexican Fiesta Night in the buffet.  We had margaritas with Putu at the bar and then went for a good Mexican dinner.  It was good.

We had after dinner drinks with Putu in Horizons and then headed to bed.  We are leaving Peru tonight and will lose 2 hours so we went to bed at 11:30 (really 9:30).
We never heard the ship leave port and we understood that the tours were very late getting back from Ariquipa.  Reaffirmed our decision not to go on that tour!
